Cowboys Pick Up Third Commitment

The Oklahoma State coaching staff is collecting linebacker commitments and they have their third commitment, a third linebacker, and another from the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex. Irving MacArthur's Jeff Bereuter said he pledged to the Cowboys over a week ago. Bereuter is a little less known than Justin Gent (6-2, 200, 4.6), his Cardinals teammate at linebacker, but his size, speed, and junior stats are impressive.

"I really liked OSU when I came up their on Junior Day," said Bereuter of his verbal commitment to Oklahoma State. "I liked it a lot, and they have a situation where they need linebackers in this recruiting class. Coach Bradford is a good man and I liked being recruited by the linebacker coach. I'm trying to talk Justin into coming with me up there."

Bereuter is 6-3, 206 pounds, and told me he has a best in the 40 of 4.45. He last tested out with a 275-pound bench press max and a 475-pound max on the squat. As a junior he had 97 total tackles, 3 sacks, 3 passes broken up, 8 tackles for losses, 7 quarterback pressures, 2 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries. A lot of activity, but he was still lesser known than Gent who earned All-District 6-5A honors. Expect Bereuter to make that team and probably several others this season.

While he has been somewhat unnoticed by media and recruiting websites, he has received plenty of notice from recruiters and it was growing as he made his verbal commitment.

"I had offers from Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Kansas, Tulsa, Stephen F. Austin, Indiana and Arizona State," said Bereuter. "I was hearing from several schools that told me they were close to offering including Iowa State, Iowa, Minnesota and UTEP."

Bereuter said he is excited about his senior season and said that MacArthur and head coach David Beatty are talented and set to have a really good season. He also said that he plans on coming to Stillwater later in the summer and will participate in a one-day OSU camp that will be held in Texas.

Verbal commitments are nonbinding and unofficial as recruits aren't officially committed to a school until they sign next February.
