Wheels Starting to Roll: DeMarcus Conner Commits

DeMarcus Conner, wide receiver from Spring (Westfield), Texas, said Sunday night's announcements by Michael Goodson and Donnell Williams had some impact on his commitment this morning to Oklahoma State but it was slight.

"I watched last night and had other things on my mind," said the 6-1, 190-pound wide receiver. "It still goes back to the coaches, the players and the education."

Conner was clocked in 4.55 at the OSU combine in Stillwater, but said he has run a best of 4.47 in the 40 at his own high school. Conner told me that he has a bench press max of 265 pounds and a squat max of 315 pounds. Last season as a junior on a 13-2 5A Division I finalist in Texas he caught 35 passes for 643 yards and six touchdowns. He is considered a very solid prospect and turned down Arizona, UTEP, SMU and TCU among others.

"I made my decision today," said Conner. "I committed after I talked to my coach (Corby Meekins) and coach (Joe) DeForest at Oklahoma State."

Conner, who says his academics are in good shape, said it was the books that sold him on OSU along with a few other aspects.

"It was primarily education," he stated. "I'm thinking about majoring in business and I want to own my own business someday. I want to get my degree. The coaches and players made me feel welcome. At the combine I thought they did some great coaching and the work ethic up there is strong. They want to win, but it still comes back to education."

Conner's commitment is the 10th for Oklahoma State for the 2006 recruiting class. Verbal commitments are not official. Signing Day is on Feb. 1, 2006.
