Recruiting: The Straight Scoop on Jeremy Gibbs

Oklahoma State is one of the leaders for the services of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Junior College's Jeremy Gibbs, and the standout defensive tackle is hoping to make a decision soon.

Last week a very biased recruiting update appeared on Jeremy Gibbs, the standout defensive tackle from NEO A&M J.C., who is originally out of Stillwater High School. It's an example of the kind of recruiting reporting I detest. I spoke with Jeremy and his stepfather James Washington and here is what I heard from them. Since there is so much misinformation out there concerning Jeremy, and since both he and his stepfather know of me, I asked them for the correct information on Jeremy's recruiting.

Right now it is clear that OSU and OU are the two leaders, and it is important to note that Jeremy intends to make a decision quickly.

"I want to make my decision before I go back to NEO on Aug. 10," said the 6-5, 280-pound Gibbs. "OSU and OU are my two main teams, but that doesn't mean it will be one of those two. I am also considering Tennessee, Iowa State and UAB (Alabama-Birmingham)."

Gibbs said he has taken unofficial visits to both of his top two schools. In fact, he visited both last week.

"It's all about working hard and doing the best I can to reach my dreams," Gibbs said in describing both his work ethic at NEO where he has lost weight and picked up speed (he now runs in the 4.8 range in the 40), and what he is looking for in a school decision.

Gibbs and his family were reported to be visiting Oklahoma last Thursday for an unofficial visit.

"That kind of fell through," said Gibb's stepfather James Washington. "Coach Stoops was called away to something and wasn't going to be back on Thursday or Friday. We did go by and visit OSU and they laid everything out for us as to Jeremy's opportunities if he were to attend OSU."

Gibbs also attended a game at OSU last season against Baylor and was in Stillwater for junior day this past spring.

I asked Gibbs if he would keep my number handy and use it to let me know of his decision when he makes it rather than have me check back with him.
