Poke Practice Notes

Celebrities weren't the only visitors to the OSU practice on Friday as Cowboy commitment Jacob Seacrest was there with his dad and his brother. Secrest spent most of his time closely watching the offensive line and was joined by Sam Cooper, a junior offensive lineman from Monroe, La., who is the younger brother of Cowboy basketball freshman center Kenneth Cooper. Also, on hand for the practice was Denton, Texas, defensive back Aaron Simms. Simms is a 6-1, 200-pounder with 4.5 speed.

Injured, Absent, and Roster Adjustments
Defensive end Marque Fountain again worked out in the sand pit as he continues to rehab a turf toe injury to his big toe. Offensive linemen Blake Botek is practicing but is limited because of his surgically repaired knee. Chijuan Mack is also in a green jersey, but is close to being completely cleared from limitations from a recent knee rehabilitation.

Freshman offensive lineman Noah Franklin returned home for personal reasons, but is expected back for tomorrow. Meanwhile, with the departure of freshman walk on Brock Dixon and the departure of injured tight end Tremayne Standberry, offensive lineman Roger Brown of Tomball, Texas, and Glenpool wide receiver John Morris were called into report to camp and practiced on Friday.

Special Teams Working
Friday's practice featured a lot of work on special teams with work on punt blocks and punt returns. There was also additional work on punt execution. The practice also saw early work on extra points and field goals. Associate head coach and special teams coordinator Joe DeForest said he is encouraged by what he has seen.

"Deep snappers are doing good," said DeForest. "I feel good about the deep snappers and I feel good about some of the things we're trying to do in the kicking game. Punter, kicker, returners, a lot of things we're working on and we're ahead of the game. We are doing a lot of walk through and practice time and we're making progress."
