Curry Named to Preseason Wooden Award List

STILLWATER, Okla. ( — JamesOn Curry, a sophomore-to-be on the Oklahoma State Cowboy Basketball team, has been named as one of the preseason top-50 candidates for the 2005-06 John R. Wooden Award, it was announced today.

Curry, one of six players listed from Big 12 Conference schools, is the lone returning starter from last year's squad that had a 26-7 record, won the Big 12 Tournament Championship and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

It also marks the third-consecutive year that OSU has had at least one player listed on the preseason ballot. Tony Allen and John Lucas were on the ballot in 2003-04, and Joey Graham and Lucas made the ballot last season.

The list is composed of 50 student-athletes who, based on last year's individual performance and team records, are the early frontrunners for college basketball's most coveted trophy. While all 50 candidates are returning players, transfers, freshmen and other players who excel throughout the season will be evaluated and considered for both the Midseason top 30 list and the National Ballot.

Other Big 12 stars on the preseason ballot are Daniel Gibson and P.J. Tucker of Texas, Oklahoma's Taj Gray, Jarrius Jackson of Texas Tech and Iowa State's Curtis Stinson.
