Brown, a 6-2, 240-pound linebacker from Hephzibah, Ga., played in all of Air Force's 11 games a year ago as a freshman, and was credited with 34 tackles. Air Force head coach Fisher DeBerry calls Brown's departure "a tremendous loss" for the program. He was set to be a starting inside linebacker this season for the Falcons.
Air Force Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa made the decision Monday to expel Brown. He failed to meet unspecified school standards, which may include academic requirements, the school's honor code and military rules, said Air Force spokesman Troy Garnhart.
Brown will redshirt this season and have three years of eligibility remaining, beginning with the 2006 season.
