Recruiting: Goodson's Dad Says Hold Steady

There's no doubt plenty of Oklahoma State fans took note as a story on text messaging in college football recruiting that appeared in Thursday morning's Houston Chronicle circulated across the Internet and various media sources. OSU commitment Michael Goodson is the featured player in the story that documents the massive text messaging that is going on during non-contact periods in recruiting.

Chronicle writer Emily Davis stated that Goodson gets an average of 85-100 messages a day. She also implied that the messaging has helped as she wrote, "And although Goodson donned an OSU cap on local television to give a solid verbal to the Cowboys, he may be wavering on that commitment. Goodson said Southern Cal and Texas A&M have now joined OSU as his top choices." There was no accompanying quote from Goodson on that aspect of the story.

Goodson was involved in a scrimmage tonight as Klein Collins prepares to open its season a week from tomorrow. We couldn't reach Goodson but we did get a return call from his father after the scrimmage.

"No, we're still where we were," said Mr. Goodson about his son's recruiting. "It hasn't stopped (the recruiting). They are pushing hard, but he's still with Oklahoma State. In fact, we are making plans on being at the first home game."

Mr. Goodson, who accompanied his son on a number of unofficial visits this summer, is taking an active role in assisting his son on finding the right college situation. He implied the door hasn't closed on their recruiting experience, but as of now nothing has changed.
