"We've completed what we consider a very challenging and demanding schedule," said Head Coach Designate Sean Sutton. "With the games we have set up during the non-conference portion of our schedule, we feel it gives our players an opportunity to gain valuable experience before facing the rugged Big 12 Conference."
The Cowboys will play 18 games inside Gallagher-Iba Arena, including two exhibition contests. OSU officially opens the season Tuesday, Nov. 8, as the Pokes host Oklahoma City University in exhibition action.
The regular season gets underway on Friday, Nov. 18, as Oklahoma State hosts Texas-Arlington. Two games at home against opponents to be named at a later date will serve as part of the Las Vegas Holiday Invitational, with the Cowboys heading to Las Vegas for the remaining two games of the tournament. OSU won the Las Vegas Invitational in 2001.
"We are excited to be playing in the Las Vegas Holiday Invitational again," Sutton said. "We have a very inexperienced team this season, and by playing in the tournament, it gives us three extra games, which will be invaluable during the stretch run."
Return trips from the UNLV Runnin' Rebels and the SMU Mustangs are the featured non-conference opponents to play in Stillwater this season. Those games will be played back-to-back on Nov. 30 and Dec. 3.
The Cowboys will play Gonzaga in the third annual Comcast Battle in Seattle on Dec. 10. It will be the first of 11 nationally televised games for OSU, and will be broadcast by CBS from Key Arena, home of the Seattle SuperSonics.
Tennessee will serve as Oklahoma State's opponent in this year's O'Reilly All-College Classic as part of a doubleheader at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. The other game will feature Oklahoma and West Virginia.
OSU will travel to Birmingham, Ala., to face the UAB Blazers in a game set up by ESPN. The Cowboys defeated UAB last season, 86-73, in Stillwater. Oklahoma State will also travel to Malibu, Calif., for a nationally televised (Fox Sports Net) rematch with the Pepperdine Waves. It is a return engagement from two years ago when the Cowboys narrowly escaped with an 84-82 victory in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
"We always try to take our players to places that are either educational or enjoyable during the non-conference portion of the schedule," said Sutton. "Places like Seattle and Birmingham can be very educational, and I think they'll have a good time in Malibu and Las Vegas."
The Big 12 Conference season once again begins on the road as OSU travels to Columbia, Mo., to face the Missouri Tigers on Jan. 7. The home portion of the league schedule includes games against Oklahoma, Kansas (ESPN), Texas (ABC), Texas Tech (ABC) and Texas A&M (ESPN2), with four of those five games being nationally televised.
Oklahoma State has three ESPN Big Monday games, including two on the road — at Texas and at Oklahoma. The Cowboys' game at Texas A&M will be on ABC. Other road games include trips to Texas Tech and Iowa State. Seven other conference games will be televised by ESPN Regional for a total of 14 Big 12 contests on national or regional television.
