Recruiting: Top Texas Linebacker Visits N.D.

Anthony Lewis, of Haltom, Texas, is a sharp young man, and the 6-3, 210-pound linebacker with 4.5 speed is also one heckuva football player. Lewis and his Haltom teammates have a huge game Friday night against Colleyville Heritage. Both teams sport the same record and this one will be for playoff seeding. After playing Friday night, Lewis will make his second official visit when he joins a multitude of prospects from across the country at Notre Dame for the Irish game with top ranked USC.

"I'm excited about the visit, but I need to focus on the game Froday first," Lewis said Thursday evening in a short conversation. "Right now I'm trying to concentrate on my team and my senior season. I think about college some, but I try not to let it interfere with my play and our drive to the playoffs."

Lewis, who previously visited Texas A&M for their game with Baylor two weeks ago, has 78 total tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery so far this season. Opponents wisely run away from Lewis, but he also still has a number of quarterback sacks from rushing the passer on blitzes.

Lewis said this weekend's trip to South Bend, squeezing an official visit in during a short time, will be his last during the season.

"It's just too busy, and I really don't want to get away with our team closing in on the playoffs," said Lewis. "I will make my other visits after the season. I know I'm going to visit Oklahoma State and Oklahoma, but after that I don't know who else I would visit."

Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma, as a wildcard thrown in, are the schools vying for the signature of Lewis.
