Recruiting: Burtons Had Fun Saturday Night

It was hard to tell who had more fun at last Saturday's OSU-Texas game, Derek Burton or Derek Burton? Dad Derek Burton, the father of Oklahoma State prospect Derek Burton, had a chance to see former Cowboy teammates like Thurman Thomas, Barry Sanders, Paul Blair and Ronnie Williams. Burton was a starting offensive lineman during the 1983-85 seasons. His son, Derek Burton, is a standout offensive guard and defensive end for Muskogee.

"I thought they played very hard the first half," said the older Burton. "It's hard to stop Vince Young unless you have somebody right on him."

"It was a pretty good game," said the younger Burton, who was there on an unofficial visit. "The first half was really good and then in the second half it went south. It was a great atmosphere."

Dad isn't pointing son straight to his alma mater but he has said he'd like to see his son go somewhere close to make it easy for the family to watch him play.

"I want him to be prepared, and I've suggested to him that he look around and be sure before he makes a commitment," said the older Burton. "I see all these kids make commitments and then they want to take visits. I believe in standing by your word when you give it."

The younger Burton (6-5, 235) says, "I'm inerested in OSU, OU, TU, Tennessee, and then I make take a fifth visit to either Texas Tech or Kansas State. I'm looking at education first, then the football program, and then the coaching staff. I've thought about majoring in phsyical therapy, but that could change."
