Recruiting: Brandon Walker Sets Visits

Brandon Walker, a 6-foot-3, 320-pound offensive tackle out of Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College, is one of the top junior college offensive linemen in the nation. He was recently named Jayhawk Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year and earned first-team All-Jayhawk Conference recognition.

Walker and the Coffeyville Red Ravens, winners of the Region 6 championship with a 33-12 victory over Dodge City on Nov. 6, are expected to hear Monday which bowl game they will be playing in next month. "We just lined up and ran it down their throats," Walker said of the victory over Dodge City. "They couldn't stop us. I think we finished with 422 rushing yards."

Walker had just returned from an official visit to the University of Oklahoma on Sunday evening. "It was good. I had a lot of fun. The have nice facilities and nice coaches," he said. "My host was (freshman lineman) Brandon Braxton and we hung out with Adrian Peterson and some other guys. I enjoyed going to the game. With 85,000 people in that stadium it was loud. It was a little different from junior college where there are maybe 8,000 people."

The Detroit, Mich., native is also being recruited Michigan State, Iowa State, East Carolina, Illinois and Oklahoma State. He has visits set for Illinois (next weekend), East Carolina (Dec. 2), Oklahoma State (first weekend of January) and Michigan State (second weekend of January).

Walker missed his entire freshman season (2004) with a pulled ligament in his hand so he will have three years of eligibility remaining once he graduates next May.

"I want to go somewhere that I'll get noticed by the people at the next level," he said. "I'm a physical player. I like hitting people in the mouth. I'd love to get up to the next level (Division I football) and make the linebackers feel me."

Walker lists Oklahoma and Michigan State as his leaders. "Right now my favorites would have to be Oklahoma and Michigan State," Walker said. "I list Michigan State because they are closer to home than the others. All the other four, they're not out of the picture. I'm looking for the place where I best fit in and the one that will get me on the field the fastest."
