Recruiting: Savage Scores Two TDs In Bowl

We spoke with one of the best, if not the best, junior college running back prospects in Dantrell Savage while he was riding the team bus home following Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College's loss in a bowl game to Northeastern Oklahonma A&M. The Gulf Coast Bulldogs lost to the Norsemen 21-19 in Coffeyville, Kan. but Savage put a good finish to his career with the Bulldogs despite the frigid, windy conditions.

"I don't know how many total years I had in the game, but I had over 100 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns," said the 5-11, 185-pound speedster who has recorded a 4.3 in the 40. "The wind felt like it was blowing 70 miles an hour and it was cold."

Savage, who will graduate from Gulf Coast in May, can now set his sights on recruiting. He told me that he will wait to make a decision on his future home until after he takes his visits.

"I am visiting Oklahoma State on Dec. 9 and then Mississippi State on Jan. 20," Savage said of the two visits he's set up. "I'm also looking at Ole Miss, Troy and Iowa State."

You could hear a movie playing in the background as we were talking and when I asked he told me it was Coach Carter. A good movie, I told him to go back to it.
