Recruiting: Cowboy Commit Moves Up Visit

Shane Jarka, the 6-foot-3, 240-pound linebacker from Fort Bend (Texas) Austin who committed to Oklahoma State in the summer, will be making the trip to Stillwater for his official visit this weekend. The personable Jarka took a few minutes to visit with about his visit this weekend and his senior season.

Jarka was originally scheduled to make his official visit the weekend of Dec. 9-11, but said he changed it because he is playing basketball and the schedule dictated he make the switch. "I'm playing basketball and the basketball coach and I talked about it and decided that we'd switch the visit to this week because next week we have a big basketball tournament. I think it's worked out fine for every one."

Jarka, who will be accompanied on the visit by his parents, said he is excited about making the trip to Stillwater. "I'm really looking forward to it. The last time I was there was in the summer when I committed," he said. "I want to make sure this is what I really want to do, where I really want to go. I'm really looking forward to seeing everything and taking everything in."

Jarka, who expects to be moved to defensive end after playing linebacker in high school, said he's also looking forward to spending some time with OSU defensive line coach Nelson Barnes and defensive coordinator Vance Bedford. "I've talked with them a little bit but I'm really looking forward to talking with them a lot more," said Jarka, who recorded 96 tackles, seven tackles for losses, and four quarterback sacks this past season for Austin which finished with a 6-4 record.

The standout defender said he watched the Cowboys on television twice this season – against Texas and Oklahoma. "I know they're going through some rough times but I have a lot of confidence in coach (Joe) DeForest and coach (Mike) Gundy. I really believe they're going to get this thing turned around. I think everything is going to be OK. They have a plan and they're following it."
