Recruiting: Beeler Has New Development

Chase Beeler, the outstanding 6-foot-3, 275-pound offensive lineman from Jenks (Okla.) High School, said Wednesday afternoon that there is a new development in his recruiting. Beeler spoke with about the new development and his trip to Stanford this past weekend.

Beeler has said previously that Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Stanford and Northwestern were the front runners, but he is meeting Wednesday night with North Carolina offensive line coach Hal Hunter.

"He's stopping by the house tonight. They are kinda a new one in the mix. I know they have a really storied basketball program but I really don't know much about their football program. I'm just kinda seeing what they have to offer," Beeler said of the Tar Heels, who were 5-6 this past season for head coach John Bunting.

Beeler and his parents traveled to California this past weekend for his trip to Stanford. "I was impressed but I didn't commit," said Beeler, who was hosted by sophomore offensive guard Alex Fletcher. "But it does add another dimension to the equation. They are a school I'm interested in and throwing into the mix. I think getting to see the football facilities was a highlight (of the trip).

"Being around the Big 12 schools all my life I really don't get to see what other schools have (as far as facilities). They are kinda like OSU in that they have a new coach and are trying to make improvements to the program. They're not quite there yet. They're trying to get there," Beeler continued. "I would say Stanford is a mini-OSU in the aspect that they have a new coach and are making improvements to the program. OSU is probably a little further along because they have the infrastructure in place."

Beeler will make his final scheduled visit this weekend when he travels to Oklahoma. He already has taken official visits to Oklahoma State (Sept. 3) and Northwestern (Oct. 28). However, that could all change tonight if the North Carolina coach convinces him to make his fifth and final trip to Chapel Hill, N.C.
