Gundy, Cowboys Salute Seniors At Banquet

The Oklahoma State football team gathered Sunday evening in the OSU Student Union Ballroom to salute the Cowboys seniors with the annual Senior Football Banquet. The staff and players were joined by special guests and family members as they honored the seniors and passed out the annual awards given to salute players from the season.

In a change from past banquets a good portion of the banquet featured Gundy at the podium asking each senior to stand up individually while he addressed that player and told the crowd about him, what he contributed and what Gundy would remember about his time spent at Oklahoma State.

Dave Hunziker, voice of the Cowboys, emceed the event that featured most of the coaching staff involved in passing out awards.

The Captains Awards were presented by Gundy to the elected captains of this year's squad: Charlie Johnson, Chase Holland and Jamie Thompson.

Offensive line coach Joe Wickline presented to Charlie Johnson the Thurman Thomas Award as the top offensive player.

Defensive coordinator Vance Bedford passed out the Leslie O'Neal Award as top defensive player to defensive end Victor DeGrate.

Defensive line coach Nelson Barnes handed the plaque for the L.L. Boger Award to defensive lineman Darnell Smith for athletic and academic excellence.

Linebacker coach Todd Bradford honored one of his own players, senior Jamar Ransom, with the Mike Johnson Spirit Award.

Assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Joe DeForest announced a split in the Special Teams Award as the staff decided to honor kicker Bruce Redden, who DeForest said has changed his look from "Sunshine" in the movie "Remember the Titans" to looking like Brad Pitt. Redden shared the award with senior special teams captain Chase Holland.

Running backs coach Curtis Luper presented the Dick Bogert Award for top freshman to 2005 Big 12 Freshman Offensive Player of the Year to Mike Hamilton.

Tight ends coach Doug Meacham presented the Barry Sanders Award for outstanding achievment to a player that didn't get major recognition to cornerback Daniel McLemore.

Finally, Gundy also presented the Bob Fenimore Award for the season's most valuable player to wide receiver D'Juan Woods.

The banquet concluded with a highlight video featuring the seniors and then the senior class came to the front of the room with Gundy and led the entire crowd in the OSU alma mater.
