Recruiting: Heading Down The Stretch

The Christmas break is over and recruiting is about to open up again. The dead period ended up being very much alive for Oklahoma State as the Cowboys picked up a much desired commitment from speedster Terrance Anderson of Adline, Texas. There was also a badly needed change of commitment from Putnam City North offensive lineman Myron McKinney, who switched his pledge from Arkansas to OSU. They also lost one of their two strong remaining offensive line prospects in Chase Beeler of Jenks.

Expecting a commitment from Beeler may have been hoping for too much as there was a strong OU pull within the family, but Beeler had kept talking about how he really liked OSU offensive line coach Joe Wickline.

The Cowboys are really looking for a few more spots to wrap up this class and we have a few prime names to keep your eyes on. Russell Okung, out of Fort Bend (Bush), Texas, becomes huge as the Cowboys would like to add another offensive lineman, and Okung is their top choice. If they don't get him the Cowboys may look for someone that fell through the cracks. A suggestion might be Claremore All-Stater Brian Lepak. The 6-4, 272-pounder is highly regarded by players and coaches that had to face him.

In the secondary Georgia Military juco corner Scott Broughton is close to making a decision, and I think the Cowboys will get him. Tim Atchison, of Copperas Cove, Texas, is another strong possibility. OSU might take both Broughton and Atchison.

Antwuan Harris, formerly of Brigham Young University and South Garland (Texas) High, is a wide receiver who will visit and is down to OSU and Oregon.

The running back position will get top billing with Michael Goodson set to announce at the U.S. Army All-American Game on national TV on Saturday, Jan. 7. I think OSU is very much still alive on that big catch. Also Mon Williams, who visited in December, is still a possibility and Graig Cooper will visit in January.

That leaves defensive line where I think OSU would like to have Derek Burton regardless of who else they get, and then possibly either Ugo Chinasa or Jeremy Gibbs.

The next few weeks should be fun to watch with a very good class already mostly tucked away in verbal commitments.
