Recruiting: Okung Talks About His Commitment

Fort Bend (Bush), Texas, offensive lineman Russell Okung committed to Oklahoma State on Friday, but was busy when we talked to him on Friday afternoon. Tonight he freed up some time and Okung was more than happy to elaborate on why he chose the Cowboys over the likes of OU and LSU.

"I've got the chance for some early playing time," said the very athletic 6-4, 250-pound Okung. "My mom likes it. She liked it on the visit and it was important for me to go to a school that my mom liked. I had to. Then they are looking to win, not just win games but be in the top 10 and the top five. They want to win a lot and quickly and that's what I want. I want to be a part of that.

"When I went up there on my visit the players, they were great," added Okung. "It made me feel like I was back in Houston. It was that good."

Okung said he is qualified and he will major in business marketing. He said football is what's most important to him. He wants to be the first offensive lineman that plays in the NFL until he is 50 years old.

He is excited and following a high school career that culminated with him being named to the All-Greater Houston team and all-district he looks like a good addition to the Cowboys.
