Recruiting: What While Chinasa Decide?

I know everybody is anxiously anticipating the decision from Ugonna Chinasa, the outstanding defensive end from Richardson (Berkner), Texas. Chinasa is going to meet with his coach in the morning and then decide early in the afternoon. Chinasa told the Alabama coaches on Monday that they are out, so it is betweenOklahoma State and Baylor. The dynamics are interesting in Chinasa's parent did not accompany him on any visits and appear to have little or no influence on the decision.

The positives for Baylor is that Chinasa's coach at Berkner, Jim Ledford has a good relationship with the coach recruiting him from Baylor. Baylor also has taken a cornerback from Berkner in this class in Calvin Rubles. Rubles is 6-3, but slow for a corner at 4.6. Baylor also has two players on its squad from Berkner.

Oklahoma State's positives are that Chinasa seemed to have a stronger visit experience at Oklahoma State. Assistant coach Todd Bradford has forged a good relationship with him as has defensive coordinator Vance Bedford, who has been to visit him twice. Also, one of Chinasa's younger teammates, junior defensive end Adrian Campbell (6-5, 240) has already shown a strong interest in Oklahoma State.

Baylor is desperate as they have just one Top 100 Texas player and two Scout Southwest Top 100 players on its commitment list so far. Oklahoma State has 10 Top 100 Texas players and 10 off the Scout Southwest list. The Bears have been aggressive lately, hoping to recoup and picked up Marlin, Texas, athlete Jeremy Sanders this week.

This is becoming too close to call, we'll see Thursday.

Also, the biggest concern over any recruit in South Texas has to be Rajon Henley. The standout defensive tackle from Galveston (Ball) says the right things, but he did make an excursion last weekend to TCU, and his mother Wednesday said she isn't sure what he is thinking right now. You know TCU has worked on him, probably in part because OSU switched Paris (North Lamar) offensive lineman Michael Booker around a week and a half ago. I'm sure that got in the craw of TCU head coach Gary Patterson and staff. It also appears that Texas Tech is trying to turn him as well.

Joe DeForest has done a fantastic job of nailing down Houston area commitments this week, including Patrick Lavine Wednesday. In our interview Lavine admitted that Missouri has been contacting him, but he is set to sign with the Cowboys. DeForest will attempt to solidify Henley later this week as he has yet to get his one in home visit before the dead period begins.
