Cowboys Place Third in Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico ( — Oklahoma State's men's golf team carded a 299 score during the final round of the Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday to finish in third place with a 2-under 862 total.

The Cowboys fired a round of 272 on Monday to move from eighth place into first with 18 holes remaining. However, Georgia and Florida both passed OSU during the final round after each squad posted 279 totals to finish first and second, respectively. The Bulldogs turned in a 21-under score of 843, while the Gators finished four shots out of the lead at 847.

Cowboy sophomore Pablo Martin entered the final day with a three-shot lead, but a 1-under 71 was not good enough to maintain the top spot. The Malaga, Spain native finished with a a 10-under-par 206 total to finish one shot off the pace of Georgia's Chris Kirk, who shot a 67 on Tuesday to get to his 205 total.

Junior Tyler Leon finished tied for 18th place at 216 after following his round of 69 yesterday with a closing round of 74. Senior Zack Robinson, who fired the low round of the tournament with a 66 on Monday, closed out the event with a 79 to finish at 220 and tied for 38th place, while redshirt freshman Jonathan Moore tied for 55th at 224 after a final round of 77. True freshman Trent Leon rounded out the lineup with a 77 to come in at 10-over 226 and tied for 63rd place.

The Cowboys will return to action on March 10 when they travel to Las Vegas to compete in the Southern Highlands Collegiate.
