Spring Practice Notes: Day 9

Considering the conditions the kicking game was pretty good Friday for the Cowboys. At the beginning of practice Bruce "Sunshine" Redden punched through an extra point and field goals of 34, 40, and 47 yards. Redden worked with holder and punter Cole Reynolds. Jason Ricks hit an extra point and field goals from 35 and 47 yards with holder and quarterback Mike Friess.

During the scrimmage Ricks was two-of-three on field goals. He hit from 35 and 39 yards and had a 44-yarder blocked. He also hit an extra point, while Redden was three of four on extra points. The one miss came with the backup snapper and holder and banged off the left upright.

Punters Head to Dallas
Punters Matt Fodge and Cole Reynolds did their work before practice, as the returning starter Fodge averaged 39.6 yards on five punts with a long of 46 yards. Reynolds averaged 39 yards on five punts with a long kick of 45 yards. Both punters are excused from the regular Saturday morning meetings as they are going to Dallas to work with a punting instructor who both have worked with before.

Several Recruits on Hand
There were three prospects at Friday's scrimmage. Mammoth 6-7, 280-pound offensive lineman Matt Romine of Tulsa Union was there with his parents. Romine has been offered by a number of schools, including OSU, OU, Miami and LSU. Romine was also a member of Tulsa Union's 6A runner-up basketball team. The other prospect that we identified was Jonathan Rush, a 6-4, 260-pound offensive lineman out of Killeen, Texas.
