Recruiting: Cooper Prefers Cowboys

Wide receiver Josh Cooper of Mustang, Okla., his father and a couple of friends and relatives made it up to Stillwater last Friday for the Cowboys' half scrimmage. The 5-11, 168-pound Cooper is not the most intimidating presence, but put a ball in his hands and he has proven that defensive backs can chase him all day, but few can catch the two-sport star.

Cooper said while in Stillwater that he could see himself playing for the Cowboys and he comes from a high school program where he plays in a similar version of the spread. Last season Cooper led all of Oklahoma's high school receivers with 98 receptions for 1,781 yards and 19 touchdowns.

"I like Oklahoma State," said Cooper. "This is really where I would like to come play in college."

Cooper also showed his ability to escape defenders on special teams as he ran back two punts and two kickoffs last season for touchdowns. It is obvious that he is in good shape right now and he admitted as much in talking about his soccer this spring.

This summer Cooper plans to go to either a one-day or a three-day camp at Oklahoma State. The Cowboys are sending him mail, as are several other schools including Texas Tech. Cooper said he has talked with OSU wide receivers coach Gunter Brewer and hopes to continue communicating with OSU which seems to be his top choice.
