Recruiting: Higgins Says Cowboys Lead

Standout defensive end Tyrell Higgins of Schertz (Clemens), Texas, said Oklahoma State is making it a little tough on his mail carrier. "Right now Oklahoma State is sending me the most mail," said Higgins. "I'm getting mail from a lot of schools, and I guess UTEP (Texas-El Paso) is second behind Oklahoma State."

Higgins is bound to get more than mail real soon as the 6-3, 255-pounder has the strength and the quickness to be a standout defensive end at the Division I level. His stats from last season bare that out. Higgins wound up with 97 total tackles, five sacks, eight defelcted passes, three fumbles caused, and a fumble recovery.

Higgins and his father were in Stillwater last Friday to watch the Cowboys' half scrimmage. The break in the track schedule (Higgins throws the shot and discus) allowed the visit. He was one of six prospects watching the Cowboys on Friday.

"It was really nice," said the All-District performer. "The facilities were really nice and we had a tour of those. The coaching staff is cool and I really liked them."

Oklahoma State has a jump on some of the other schools as they have already offered a scholarship, but Higgins's mail carrier better be in shape because more mail and offers are likely to be coming.
