Spring Practice Notes: Day 14

The rosters for the Orange and White spring game on Saturday are virtually set, but they have not been released because of some tweaking that could be done in the Thursday morning staff meeting. We do know that the White will be getting points on the scoreboard to begin the game, and they should because the first team offense including the line, quarterback Bobby Reid, tight end Brandon Pettigrew, and wide receivers D'Juan Woods and Adarius Bowman will all be together on the Orange.

The Orange team will be loaded on offense. Most of the starting defense will be together on the Orange as well. For the White to win there will have to be some step up performances.

During Wednesday's practice the squad worked on all phases of the kicking game. The Orange will have kicker Bruce "Sunshine" Redden, punter Matt Fodge, and deep snapper Kyle Mariacher. The White will have kicker Jason Ricks, punter Cole Reynolds, and deep snapper Zach Allen.

Two Former Head Coaches Attend Practice
The coach that was easily recognizable was former Oklahoma State coach Pat Jones. Jones is the winningest head coach in OSU history and took OSU to three 10-win seasons in the 1980s. Jones renewed relationships with a number of OSU friends during the practice. He was so busy greeting and talking to people that he hardly had a chance to watch any of the scrimmage. Current OSU head coach Mike Gundy, who quarterbacked for Jones from 1986-89, had Jones address the team after the scrimmage. Jones spoke to the team for close to 15 minutes, talking about some of his great teams and the players that he coached at Oklahoma State. Jones is expected back this weekend to see some of those players and be introduced at halftime of the Orange-White Spring Game. (There is a feature story that catches up with Pat Jones in the latest issue of Go Pokes Magazine.)

The other head coach present was former Ole Miss coach Billy Brewer. Brewer is the father of current OSU wide receivers coach Gunter Brewer. He served as head coach at Ole Miss in the '80s and '90s and enjoyed some of the most successful seasons in Rebel football history. He is still active in doing post-game analysis on Ole Miss radio and is also about to launch a college football show with former Mississippi State head coach Jackie Sherrill on Fox Sports Southeast.
