Recruiting: Cowboys Offer Russian?

While Round Rock High School in Texas is loaded with several prospects, one is just now appearing on radar screens and OSU may have been the first school to really hit on this Russian. But he is not from Siberia. Alex Russian is his name and he is rapidly becoming recognized as a prime tight end prospect in Texas. His statistics are not eye popping as he had seven catches for 110 yards and three touchdowns last season. However, he is 6-4 1/2, 222 pounds, and runs a 4.66 in the 40-yard dash.

"Since I am really just coming up on the radar with schools I am probably going to take my time," Russian said when discussing his recruiting. "I think I will wait until after football season since really the only campus that I have seen is the one here in Austin at Texas. I want to take my visits and look around. I am definitely going up to Oklahoma State. I'd like to see Texas A&M and maybe UConn. Anybody that offers I want to go see the campus."

Oklahoma State is the only offer so far, but he said he has heard from Arizona, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UConn and SMU. A good student, Russian is looking for several things in a college.

"It has to be good academically for me," said Russian, who also plays varsity basketball and throws the discus in track. "They have to have a good football program and just the right environment. I'm not sure, but I am looking at studying Biology."

Besides a quick 40-yard dash time, Russian has a 295-pound bench press and a 400-pound squat. This past week he was seen by several coaches in spring practice at Round Rock and is as impressive in his blocking as he is pass catching.

He's new on the list, but his fans (evaluating coaches) are growing this spring.
