Cowboys In First Place At Central Regional

CHARDON, Ohio (www.okstate.com) — Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened play on Thursday at the NCAA Central Regional with a 4-under 280 team score to stand alone in first place at Sand Ridge Golf Club. The top-seeded Cowboys were one of just two squads in the 27-team field to break par on the day and will enter the second round one stroke ahead of second-place Northwestern and four strokes ahead of Texas A&M.

OSU hung around the top of the leaderboard for most of the day and made its move to the top after its starting five made 10 birdies and just one bogey over its final five holes.

All five Cowboys finished at par or better on the day with three players finishing in red numbers and all five among the top 20 on the individual leaderboard.

Coming off his first career victory last weekend at The Maxwell, redshirt freshman Jonathan Moore continued his outstanding play, carding a 69 during his first round. The Vancouver, Wash., native birdied two of his last three holes to move into a tie for 6th place. Moore will enter play tomorrow one shot out of second place and two off the pace of leader Chris Wilson of Northwestern.

True freshman Trent Leon was impressive in his first career postseason round, carding a 1-under 70 to finish the day tied for 10th place in a group that included sophomore teammate Pablo Martin. Leon's round included four birdies, while Martin carded a 2-under 34 on his back nine to get to his number.

Senior Zack Robinson finished his day strong, recording birdies on two of his last three holes to finish with an even-par 71 and tied for 17th place. The Ft. Worth, Texasm native went out in 1-under 34 before recording three consecutive bogeys on Nos. 11, 12 and 13. However, Robinson birdied the par-4 16th and the par-5 18th to get back to even.

Junior Tyler Leon was also in the group tie for 17th after his round of 71. The Dallas, Texas, native made the turn at even par and birdied both par 5s on the inward nine to finish at level par.

The Cowboys will be paired with Georgia Tech and Texas A&M for tomorrow's second round and will tee off at 7 a.m. at the par-71, 7,173-yard layout.
