Recruiting: A New Name To Watch

Houston Wheatley High School in Texas is better known for its basketball tradiition, but Cornelius Robinson has attracted some big time attention for his football abilities. Robinson recently displayed those talents at the half day mini-camp that Oklahoma State conducted in the Houston area. The 6-5, 190-pound Robinson can scoot with a 4.52 in the 40-yard dash.

"It was good, it was really good," Robinson said of the camp. "I like the coaches and they were good to work with."

Robinson will need to build upper body strength with a 205-pound bench press max, but his squat is 420 pounds and he has a big time 40 inches on his vertical jump. Last season he had 37 recpetions for 521 yards and nine touchdowns.

On defense he had 20 total tackles and five interceptions. He also returned punts, including returning one for an 86-yard touchdown. In basketball he splits time between power forward and post and averaged 12 points and 13 rebounds a game. He also plays baseball at Wheatley.

So far Baylor, Arizona and Oklahoma State have offered scholarships. He is also being recruited by Notre Dame, Houston and TCU.

"I'm interested in all the schools, but I would have to say I know the OSU coaches and that is a positive," Robinson said of his recruitment. "Coach (Gunter) Brewer is recruiting me from Oklahoma State and coach Evans from Baylor. I am going to wait until the fall to take visits and go see the schools. I'm looking to get a good education, and in football I want to go to a school that plays offensive football and passes the ball a lot."

Robinson also added that Baylor and Oklahoma State are the two schools that have talked about him possibly playing both football and basketball. This summer he is working and working out, but he said he is not playing any basketball over the summer.
