Recruiting: Brooks Has Offers From OSU, KU

Peter Brooks is a prospect who hasn't had much publicity, but the defensive tackle out of Justin Northwest High School near Fort Worth, Texas, is weighing offers from Oklahoma State and Kansas. Also, he is hearing consistently through mail, e-mail, and text messaging from Texas Tech, Baylor and Wyoming.

The 6-3, 255-pound Brooks runs a 4.9 in the 40-yard dash and has good strength with a 330-pound bench press max and an approximate 425-pound squat. He also has a 26-inch vertical jump.

"I'm going to summer school because I had a half credit I neeeded to make up and then I'm hanging out and going to workouts," Brooks said when asked about his summer. "I'm planning on going and checking out both Oklahoma State and Kansas."

This is a time when a lot of recruits are trying to determine if they want to make an early commitment or go into the fall still actively involved in looking for their college choice.

"I'm thinking of waiting till the fall," said Brooks. "Both schools (OSU and KU) are good schools, but I want to check it out. I'm looking to major in some sort of business management, and then as far as football I just want to get up there (to school) and play. Both schools told me they thought I would have a good chance of playing pretty good."

This season Justin Northwest moves up into Texas' highest class, Class 5A, meaning they will see better competition and Brooks is looking forward to it. "I think we've got a pretty good team and I think we'll do well," Brooks said.

Brooks, who is expected to play exclusively at defensive tackle, should get plenty of opportunities to impress college coaches throughout the season.
