Talladega Nights For The Cowboys

STILLWATER - After a bounce back effort in the morning practice, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy moved up the start of the afternoon practice. Then, just before it appeared they were going to officially start practice with a team hitting drill, Gundy told the team they had 20 minutes to get to the locker room, shower, get dressed, and get on the buses heading to the movie Talladega Nights.

"I had to get out of the way," Gundy said when asked if his announcement had the desired response. "It was starting to get hot and sticky out there and they were in a hurry. We knew we wanted to hit the two-a-days last week, and I really didn't want to hit another round of two-a-days this week. We had to get the work in. That's why we stayed around last night till dark. Then if we hadn't had a good day today i would have had them come out this afternoon and work. We extended this morning and got some good work."

Gundy said he wasn't sure which movie they were going to see. That had been arranged by director of football operations Jimmy Gonzales. Defensive coordinator Vance Bedford said it was Talladega Nights, The Legend of Ricky Bobby. When Gundy asked who was in it and was told Will Ferrell he said, "It's gotta be a funny, right. They'll want to laugh, and probably half of them will be asleep."

One of the major objectives in practice this week is to solidify the offensive line depth chart. The starters look pretty firm after the scrimmage on Saturday with David Koenig at left tackle, Steven Denning at left guard, David Washington at center, Kurt Seifried at right guard, and Corey Hilliard at right tackle.

"We're getting close," said Gundy. "By Friday we'd like to have a group of ones, a group of twos and a third guard and third tackle. We're not going to be two deep across the board, so we'd like to have a third guy rotate in there in case we have a turned ankle. We're going to find three guards and three tackles. You also have to have three guys that can snap the ball."

After movie time this afternoon it will be back to training table for dinner and meetings. Then back to the regular schedule on Wednesday with practice scheduled on the grass fields at 4:45 p.m. All practices are now closed to the public.
