Creer Focused On Football

Running back Lennon Creer, one of the top-ranked skill prospects in Texas and the nation, was a man of few words when we caught up with him at home Monday night. Creer and his Tatum teammates, defending Class 3A state champs now playing in Class 2A, will take their 1-0 record against always stout Gilmer on Friday night.

"We have Gilmer," said Creer. "Last week we opened up and beat Dangerfield 40-21. I played good."

Asked if anything was new in recruiting since he has been back from a late summer unofficial trip to Tennessee, and since he backed off his plan to have a commitment before or very early into his senior season, Creer said not really.

"I went to Tennessee and had a good trip, but I'm not really thinking about it a lot right now," said Creer. "Miami, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Florida are the schools I have on my list right now," added Creer when asked about his top school choices.

He did not mention any unofficial visits planned for the fall to see any of the schools he is considering.

Creer also said he has been called by coaches at each of the schools on his list since the calling period opened up last Friday. Some coaches called early Friday morning to wish him luck in his first game of the season.

A recruiting decision seems further off as Creer appears to be very focused on what he needs to do for the Eagles as they aim for a second straight championship in Texas. It appears that official visits later this year and in January may become the deciding factors for this talented running back.
