Cowboy Coaches Stay Busy On Off Weekend

Just to clear up all the rumors floating around, the Oklahoma State coaching staff did use the off weekend as an evaluation weekend. While it was rumored that most of the staff headed to Utah to see defensive tackle Simi Fili play, the truth is OSU linebackers coach Todd Bradford, who is the primary recruiting coach for Fili, was out in Utah to see the 6-4, 310-pounder play.

Head coach Mike Gundy was out in state and received some news exposure in Oklahoma City television as he watched Millwood and quarterback Gerald Jones. Millwood defeated Jones 47-27. The Falcon's Jones ran for 144 yards and hit on 13-of-21 passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns. Oklahoma State is recruiting Jones as a running back and he is being recruited by other major Division I schools for quarterback, wide receiver, running back, safety and as an athlete.

Also in the Oklahoma City area was OSU associate head coach Joe DeForest. DeForest was spotted at Midwest City to watch rising prospect Andrew Thigpen of the Midwest City Bombers. Thigpen had 74 yards rushing on six carries while scoring one touchdown. He also threw for 35 yards and a touchdown going 2-for-4. At safety on defense, he had an interception for a touchdown, forced a fumble, and had seven tackles. Midwest City defeated Edmond 40-14.

It is also speculated that DeForest left and stopped in Norman to see Norman Tigers cornerback and wide receiver Ryan Broyles. The two-sport star who is also a very good basketball player caught seven passes for 183 yards and rushed for touchdowns of 15 and 1 yard. He also blocked a Choctaw field goal in the 24-0 Norman win.

The other four Cowboy coaches on the road were in Texas. Offensive line coach Joe Wickline was in east Texas, Curtis Luper was in north and central Texas, Nelson Barnes was in the Houston area and tight ends coach Doug Meacham was in the central and south central Texas region. Most of the coaches viewed games involving players that have committed to the Cowboys, including Floresville offensive line Nick Martinez and Mart athlete/wide receiver Damian Davis.
