Recruiting: Fili Notices A Friend In Stands

Defensive tackle Simi Fili of Salt Lake City (Cottonwood), Utah, reports that he and his Cottonwood teammates had a very successful Friday night.

"We stomped on our opponent. I think the final score was 42-14," said Fili. "We were playing West High School. I was able to get around and beat my man one-on-one and get three sacks and four tackles. The during the game they started double- and triple-teaming me. They also started to high/low and cut on my knees. I could tell they were shooting at my knees."

That really isn't all that surprising when you consider that Fili is listed at 6-4, 315 pounds. Any single high school offensive linemen - or, for that matter, an entire line - would get tired of dealing with that after a couple of series.

Fili did notice he had some admirers that were watching.

"Coach (Todd) Bradford (from Oklahoma State) was there, as were some other recruiters," said Fili. "It was good that Coach Bradford came to the game. I was glad to see him watching."

Fili said he still has an official visit set up for Oklahoma State on Oct. 21 as he and his parents will come check out Oklahoma State and Stillwater on the Cowboys homecoming weekend when they host Texas A&M.

"That is my only visit right now," said Fili. "The schools are the same -- Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Tennessee, Arizona State, Oregon and Colorado."

Next week is perhaps Fili and Cottonwood's most important game of the regular season.

"We have a big challenge as we play Highland," added the big defensive tackle. "Highland is unbeaten in region and district play, so this game will be for first place in the region."
