Hoops Recruiting: James Anderson Down To Two?

Standout small forward James Anderson of Junction City, Ark., met with his high school head coach and mother Wednesday to try to narrow the list of schools he's considering. The 6-6, 190-pounder has been considering OSU, Florida, Kansas, Arkansas and Kentucky. Junction City head coach Joe Hammett visited with GoPokes.com tonight and gave us an up-to-the-minute update on Anderson's recruiting.

Anderson, the 24th-best prospect in the nation as ranked by Scout.com, has narrowed his choices to Oklahoma State and Kansas, Hammett said. However, he is still considering taking a visit to Kentucky the weekend of Nov. 3-4, Hammett said.

"Right now, that's on hold," Hammett said of the visit to Kentucky. "He has narrowed it down to Oklahoma State and Kansas."

Hammett said Anderson and his mother, Ira Williams, were both impressed with Oklahoma State on his official visit last weekend, even though he arrived about 12 hours later than expected because his original flight was cancelled. Anderson, Jai Lucas and Cowboy commit Nick Sidorakis, all of whom played on the same team at the NBA Camp this past summer, were all making their official visit to OSU, and attended Saturday's Basketball Bash.

"He had a good visit. I know that," Hammett said. "I know his mom had an excellent time. She was definitely impressed with them."

Hammett said that his meeting with Anderson and his mother went well, and they got accomplished what they hoped to on Wednesday.

"We just sat down and discussed the positives and negatives of each place," the Junction City coach said. "We talked about what he liked (about each school), and what he sees himself doing as far as basketball is concerned at each school. But we're going to let James decide. I'm just trying to provide information for his decision, and am asking him questions that he can answer to make his decision easier. The decision will definitely be his. I will say that I think he is on the right track."

Hammett says that there was no date set for a final decision to be made. "It could come on Nov. 8 when he decides to sign or he could do it sooner, maybe in the next couple days. I think not taking a visit this weekend, after having visits the last three weekends (to Kansas, Florida and Oklahoma State), will be good for him. It'll give him some time to think.

"James is definitely a quiet kid as everyone knows, but along with that he observes a lot," Hammett continued. "He has an idea of what he wants. Just like today when he was able to get it to where it is now (down to two schools). He's a lot closer (today) then he was last week."

Hammett says that Anderson is handling the situation well, but he also wants it to be over soon. "I don't think it's difficult for him yet. James is handling it well. But he knows it's getting close and he's eager to make his choice.

"James knows when he's ready to commit he wants to be 100 percent sure, and he will be. He'll choose the right place for him."
