Curry Redeems Himself Against Demons

Oklahoma State blew an 18-point second half lead and allowed Northwestern (La.) State – a team that won in Gallagher-Iba Arena a year ago – to tie the score with five minutes remaining before the Cowboys rallied for a 79-76 victory Wednesday night. Mario Boggan scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half, including six of the last 10 points, and JamesOn Curry added 22 points and nine assists.

Stat line of the game: JamesOn Curry: 7-16 FGs, 3-8 3FGs, 5-7 FTs, 22 points, 5 rebounds, nine assists, three steals.

Player of the game: JamesOn Curry, who was held scoreless in last season's 68-64 loss to Northwestern State, scored 22 points and added nine assists and three steals. But it was his plays after the Demons pulled even at 69-69 with 5:19 remaining that got the lead back for the Cowboys. His pass to a wide open Mario Boggan for a reverse lay up gave the Cowboys a 71-69 lead, and then just seconds later made a steal and fed Obi Muonelo for a lay up for a four-point lead. Curry did not score and committed four turnovers in 21 minutes against Northwestern State in last season's loss.

The game was over when …: the buzzer sounded. It wasn't until Northwestern State's Luke Rogers missed an off-balance jumper in the lane that Byron Eaton rebounded and threw the length of the floor as the final seconds ticked off the clock that the Cowboys knew that they were 2-0.

Quote of the game: "I thought JamesOn was very motivated tonight because he felt like that was his worst game of his entire career – not only at the college level but going back to high school – last year when we played Northwestern State. He stepped up and played well. I thought Mario down the stretch made a lot of key baskets for us to keep us ahead." – Sean Sutton

Next: 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, vs. Texas Southern, at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
