Gundy Talks Weather & Recruiting

In addition to postponing the first bowl practice from Friday to Saturday the severe winter storm that hit central Oklahoma also caused Oklahoma State to postpone its first major recruiting visit weekend of the heavy recruiting season. Cowboy head coach Mike Gundy was asked about that decision after practice on Saturday and how much, if any, it might hamper the Cowboys recruiting effort.

"You don't ever like to cancel a recruiting weekend but I'm not going to fly a kid in here," said Gundy. "I know with my son I wouldn't want to have him flying in there when they had no radio and ice, or driving him up here. It's just too dangerous. I am responsible for those guys. Can you imagine that? I have to tell a parent that your son is in a ditch over by Guthrie somewhere. 'Why?' 'Because we were driving him and it was icy.' I'm not going to do that."

Gundy seemed pretty confident that the Cowboys could pick up the recruiting visits next weekend. The bowl preparation actually gives the program more opportunity to bring prospects in and have them exposed to the current football team. Gundy just wants to do it when there is much less risk in traveling.

"I know we are going to make it up," said Gundy. "I am just not going to take a chance with somebody's child in weather like that."

Below is a list that Go Pokes assembled of prospects that reported they were visiting or considering visiting this weekend. Our understanding, with the ones we have been able to contact, is that they will make the visit up. In fact, all of the ones we have spoke with thus far have said they will make it up next weekend. Six of the visitors expected have already made a verbal commitment to Oklahoma State and they are identified with the asterisk.
