Former Cowboys Selected To Pro Bowl

A pair of former Oklahoma State standout defensive linemen – Jamal Williams and Kevin Williams – were selected Tuesday to play in the Pro Bowl to be played Feb. 10 in Honolulu. Jamal Williams of the San Diego Chargers will be a starter for the AFC team while Kevin Williams of the Minnesota Vikings was announced as a starting defensive tackle for the NFC squad. The two are not related.

It is the first time that the 6-3, 348-pound Jamal Williams, in his ninth year in the NFL, has been selected as a starter for the Pro Bowl, although he was an alternate in 2004. He played at Oklahoma State in 1995 and ‘97, earning first-team All-Big 12 Conference recognition following his senior season. He finished his career as a Cowboy with 117 tackles and 9.5 sacks. The Chargers selected Williams with a second round pick in the NFL's Supplemental Draft in July of 1998, and he has spent his entire nine-year NFL career with San Diego.

Jamal Williams anchors the Chargers' defense front from his defensive tackle position where he has recorded 58 tackles (39 unassisted) and two quarterback sacks this season. He was one of a league-leading nine Chargers selected for the Pro Bowl. The former Cowboy previously earned All-Pro honors in 2004 and was named the Chargers Defensive Player of the Year and Lineman of the Year after that season. This past May he was rewarded for his outstanding play as the Chargers signed him to a five-year contract extension that will keep him in San Diego through the 2010 season.

Kevin Williams, a 6-5, 304-pounder who played at OSU from 1999-2002, will be playing in his second Pro Bowl in just four years with the Vikings. He was a first-round draft choice by the Vikings (the ninth overall selection) in the 2003 NFL Draft, and has quickly established himself as a dominant defensive lineman in the league. He started 42 games during his college career at OSU, recording 160 tackles, 38 tackles for loss and 18.5 sacks. He was a first-team All-Big 12 selection following his senior season.
