Recruiting: Weather Cancels Visit Weekend

The ice storm that has blanketed the state of Oklahoma has caused Oklahoma State to cancel its recruiting weekend. This was the biggest weekend for head coach Mike Gundy and his staff with 14 visitors expected. It is also the second time this recruiting season that Oklahoma State has had to cancel a weekend as they also canceled the Dec. 1-3 weekend because of ice and snow.

Personally, in 15 years of very attentive coverage of recruiting I have never seen a weekend canceled at OSU until the past two months.

Postpone, and not cancel, is really the better word as Gundy and his staff will hope to have all of the recruits that were expected in Stillwater Friday and Saturday reschedule their visit for one of the three remaining weekends left for visits prior to signing day on Feb. 7. We will do our best to track the prospects that were expected this weekend and see if they are going to be able to reschedule their visits.

Instead of individual posts we will simply keep editing and updating this post on the recruiting weekend.

Co-Eric Riley
WR, 6-2, 200, 4.5, Miss. Gulf Coast C.C.
(This story was filed by Co-Eric Riley, one of the top junior college receivers in the country, had an official visit scheduled for Oklahoma State for this weekend.

"They canceled the visits because of the weather," said Riley. "They are talking about rescheduling it for next weekend."

Riley has seen another school come on strong as of late.

"Southern Miss wants me to come in to see them the last weekend of January," said Co-Eric. "I am supposed to be visiting Tennessee that weekend and I plan on going taking that visit instead of going to Southern Miss."

Co-Eric took his official visit to Mississippi State back during the season.

"I am still committed to Mississippi State," said Riley. "I am taking a look at some other things, but I am still committed to them."

(Here were some comments when we spoke with Riley later.)
On whether he thought he could reschedule his visit: "I think I will make it up next weekend."

On his feeling about the trip being canceled: "I'm not mad at the coaches or anything. They don't have any control over the weather. It makes me respect them even more that they didn't try to bring me there when the weather was bad."

Ryan Broyles
WR/CB, 6-0, 180, 4.45, Norman, Okla.

Broyles said he was disappointed that the visit weekend was canceled, but said he will reschedule.

"That is what I am going to do," said Broyles. "Coach (Gunter) Brewer called me today and he had told me he thought it would be canceled. He's going to call me back and we'll decide when I'm going to go up there. I was looking forward to it. I've been up there before and I wanted to go and get a feel for the players. I thought the weather was perfect because If I was going to get stuck inside I wanted to get stuck inside with the players."

Jamie Blatnick
DE, 6-3, 250, 4.8, Celina, Texas

Jamie Blatnick wasn't home as he was playing basketball for Celina on Friday evening, but his father, Anton Blatnick had this to say.

"He's playing basketball," said Mr. Blatnick. "As soon as football ends basketball season begins. We were all going to go up tomorrow, but the weather doesn't always cooperate. We're looking at two weeks out now (Jan. 26) and I'm sure we'll get up there before May (laughing). This is a very minor interuption in what we think is a good plan. Jamie is very happy to be going to Oklahoma State and we are very happy about him going to Oklahoma State."

Tarence Farmer
WR, 6-2, 190, 4.4, Houston (St. Pius X), Tex.

Farmer was at home on Friday night. He said not much changes, but rescheduling the visit may be difficult.

"It will be close," said Farmer. "I think I can, but it will be close. I'm going to Tennessee next weekend and then I haven't confirmed but I've got a visit to Nebraska the next weekend. I really wasn't that disappointed because Oklahoma State has been one of the most consistent schools in recruiting me. I just didn't get to see the campus. It doesn't change how I see Oklahoma State they are one of the top two schools with me. (The other is Tennessee.)"
