Recruiting: Cowboys Get A Hunter

Tyler (John Tyler), Texas, running back Kendall Hunter has said all along he was interested in Oklahoma State, but the relationship seemed to be hot and luke warm at various times. It is hot now, and despite the icy weather that kept the talented running back from heading to Stillwater this past weekend, he has made a decision.

"I actually made my decision Friday when they called and told me they were canceling the visits this weekend," said Hunter. "I told the coaches then I was committed. Oklahoma State is the school I wanted to go to from the beginning. It was my number one pick."

Hunter said he has also rescheduled his visit and plans on being in Stillwater next weekend.

Hunter earned AP Texas Class 5A 2nd Team All-State honors this season as he again led the John Tyler Lions in rushing with 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also had 29 receptions for 429 yards and five touchdowns. His junior season Hunter rushed for 1,056 yards and 12 touchdowns with three catches for 255 yards and two touchdowns. Yes, that is an average of 85 yards a catch. He is a big play back with sub 4.5 breakaway speed. Evidence is the fact that he had more than 100 all-purpose yards in all of John Tyler's games this past season.

His career total in all-purpose yards is 3,396 with 32 touchdowns and those numbers include the three career touchdowns he had on kick and punt returns.

He also earned all-district honors the past two seasons and was 1st Team All-East Texas this past season.

Hunter had committed to TCU in December, but made the switch to his top choice in the Cowboys. He said he was also recruited by Iowa State, Kansas State, Purdue, Baylor and Tennessee.

Hunter has yet to qualify as he needs a test score. Physically he is strong for his size with a 285 pound bench press and 425 pound squat. He also says he can vertical 37 inches.
