Recruiting: New Cowboy Trio Settled In

While doing interviews for the upcoming recruiting issue of Go Pokes Magazine we stumbled across the fact that incoming freshman linebacker Kenny Alexander, gray-shirt safety Deron Fontenot, and juco transfer defensive tackle Tonga Tea are rooming together. The trio gets along very well and all three are more than just a little excited to get going with offseason workouts which start this week.

"I like my temmates and that's really who I play for, my teammates," said the 6-0, 315-pound Tea. "I already like my new teammates a lot, including my roommates."

Tea is an avid hunter and fisherman and that works well as Alexander also loves to fish. "I just got into it recently, one of my coaches, Coach Blato, got me into it," said Alexander.

Tea and Alexander are both fresh off successful seasons. Tea and his Snow C.C. team finished the season ranked second in the nation and won their bowl game over Coffeyville (Kan.) C.C., while Alexander and his North McKinney H.S. teammates finished the season 9-1. Alexander was honorable mention AP Texas Class 4A All-State as well as all-district while. Tea was an NJCAA first team All-American and also first team All-Western States Football League.

Fontenot is in a different situation. "I haven't had pads on since November of my senior season (2005)," said the South Grand Prairie grad. "I had surgery this past summer on my shoulder and I have spent the fall rehabing and working to get back in the game. I cannot wait to put on the pads this spring. I'm going to be flying around and trying to make up for what I have been missing."

Fontenot said he will start out at strong safety and at 5-10, 198 pounds is ready to go. The trio of new roommates have already formed a fast friendship and say they'll be supporting each other as they all get ready to jump into Oklahoma State campus life and make their first impression in the Cowboy football program.
