Recruiting: The Fight Is On For Higgins

Oklahoma State fans might be cursing the weather because a missed visit last weekend might have gone toward solidifying the commitment from obviously underrated Schertz (Clemens), Texas, defensive lineman Tyrell Higgins. Higgins said he still plans on visiting the Cowboys and says he is still an Oklahoma State commitment, but a new school has now entered the picture.

"Texas called today and they offered," said the 6-3, 255-pound Higgins. "I was kind of surprised, but my coaches had said it might happen. I've told Coach (Doug) Meacham (OSU assistant). What I would like to do is go down and visit Texas this weekend and then visit Oklahoma State last on the final weekend. I have the SAT the weekend in between."

Higgins has been ranked way too low by recruiting networks despite an extremely productive high school career that included honorable mention All-State honors in Class 5A from the Associated Press, and Higgins being a leader in helping Clemens advance deep into the playoffs this season.

"I am still committed to OSU, but I feel I need to at least go check it out, and then I will go and see Oklahoma State on the last weekend," repeated Higgins.
There is no doubt Texas is a serious threat, but Oklahoma State could show that they are coming on strong on the recruiting front by hanging on to Higgins. It obviously makes the recruitment of Higgins much more interesting than Cowboy fans or coaches would have liked.
