Recruiting: Cooper Ready For Signing Day

He sometimes gets lost in the shuffle because he has been committed for so long and because Oklahoma State was where he wanted to be all along, but Mustang, Okla., record-setting wide receiver Josh Cooper made his official visit to Stillwater this weekend and it went just as expected.

"It was great," said the quiet 6-0, 180-pound wide receiver. "My host was Zac Robinson and we hit it off. It was about what I expected except for the food. I really liked the food and it seemed like all we did was eat."

We were also doing the interview with Cooper for the upcoming recruiting issue of Go Pokes Magazine and for the first time asked him how he felt about being compared so often with another former Oklahoma All-State performer at wide receiver in former Heritage Hall and Texas Tech and current Miami Dolphins player Wes Welker.

"I like being compared to Wes Welker," said Cooper. "Who wouldn't? I mean, look at where he is now."

Cooper this season played offense, defense, returned punts and kicks, kicked field goals and kickoffs, and even punted the first couple of games for Mustang. It is his receiving numbers against 6A competition the last two years that grab your attention. He compiled 179 receptions for 3,079 yards and 34 touchdowns. That comes out to 17.2-yards per reception.
