Hoops Recruiting: Marshall Moses Announces?

Marshall Moses, the 6-7, 235-pound power forward from the Patterson School in Patterson, N.C., told me last week to call him back Monday night as he would have some information to report. We contacted him about 8:30 p.m. (Central time) and Moses said he had nothing to tell us. But about 10 o'clock the telephone rang and it was Moses, and this time he had some news to share.

"I just got off the telephone with Coach (Sean) Sutton and I verbally committed to Oklahoma State," said Moses, who had also been recruited by Kentucky, Kansas State, Illinois and North Carolina State.

Moses said he talked with his father after he returned home from work Monday night, and that's when he made his final decision. He then called OSU's head coach with the news.

"I think they were kinda surprised to hear from me tonight," said Moses, who averages 27 points and 12 rebounds at the North Carolina prep school. "They seemed really excited when I told them."

Moses again reiterated how important his official visit was to Oklahoma State on Jan. 21-22, and seeing the Cowboys defeat Bedlam rival Oklahoma inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. "I think the biggest factor was just the great time I had on my visit," he said. "The people I met there were all just great, and it's always been a big-time college basketball program."

Moses was expected to take an official visit to Kentucky this past weekend but that trip did not occur. "Kentucky is a great program and always will be, and I'm a college basketball fan and when they're on television I'll always be watching them and rooting for them, but Oklahoma State was just the right situation for me. I'm excited about Oklahoma State."

Moses said that he did not take the SAT test as reported this past weekend but he has rescheduled it for March 10. As far as qualifying to play as a freshman, he said, "I'm real close. I've been doing pretty good in my classes and hope to get my test scores where they need to be."

Moses had one final message for OSU Cowboy basketball fans: "I can't wait for next season. I really feel like we're going to have a great team, just like they do now, and I'm looking forward to playing at Oklahoma State."
