Tim Beckman: The Numbers Behind The Resume

As you probably know by now Mike Gundy has completed his staff by hiring Ohio State assistant Tim Beckman to fill the role of defensive coordinator. Beckman fits the checklist that we believe Gundy was seeking in a coach. He uses an aggressive 4-3 style of defense, has Division I defensive coordinator experience, is a successful recruiter, and a coach in the right age range and a family man.

"Coach Beckman was the best person for the position," Gundy said in a release from Oklahoma State athletic media relations. "The process took a long time because my staff and I wanted to hire the best fit for Oklahoma State. We wanted someone who could also help us continue the recruiting momentum we have established."

"Coach Gundy seems like a great leader and has put together a terrific staff," Beckman said. "I can't wait to jump in and get started."

Beckman was quick to point out his defensive style, which is exactly what Gundy was looking for in his search.

"We will try to put pressure on the quarterback, which I feel is the key to stopping today's offenses," Beckman said. "We will be sound and play with an aggressive attitude as we swarm to the football."

To give you an idea of how Beckman has done in his previous stops, below is a look at the numbers. Obviously he was dealing with a different caliber of talent as an assistant at Ohio State, along with a different caliber of opposition from his six years as a coordinator at Bowling Green. You might be very impressed with his 2003 Bowling Green defense which also had 33 sacks for 246 yards in losses. Beckman was defensive coordinator at Bowling Green from 1999-2004.
