Recruiting: James Favors Cowboys

One of Oklahoma State's top targets at running back for the 2008 recruiting campaign is speedster LaMichael James of Texarkana (Liberty-Eylau), Texas. James is a 5-10, 180-pounder that runs a legit 4.38 in the 40-yard dash. His speed is also evident on the track where he is a state champion threat in the 100 meters, sprint relay, mile relay, and long jump.

On the football field it translates to 1,587 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns along with 426 receiving yards and three touchdowns last season. As a sophomore, splitting time he rushed for 643 yards and 10 touchdowns. There is a reason the Cowboys like him so much ,and right now with James the feeling is mutual.

"I'd say Oklahoma State is on top," said James. "It was the first campus that I saw when I went to their Junior Day. I really liked it. They are also the school I talk to the most and I hear from the most with mail. I like the way their coach talks about academics because that's important to me. I don't know what I want to major in, something with law, maybe criminal justice."

James said he is also considering going to Texas or Oklahoma this coming weekend to check out those campuses. He said he has been contacted by a number of schools but lists OSU, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Houston as the most serious.

"I'm really just getting into this (recruiting)," said James. "I don't have a clue about it and I don't know if I want to decide and commit early or take more time. I'm going to have to see as I go."

James was the District 16-3A Offensive MVP and first team All-District, but he has still flown a little under the radar screens as far as the major lists from recruiting networks. He is not under the radar when it comes to college coaches in the region.
