Anderson Named McDonald's All-American

Oklahoma State signee James Anderson was officially announced as a McDonald's All-American on Saturday night. It has been rumored for several weeks that the Junction City, Ark., standout was one of 24 seniors from across the nation named to the 2007 McDonald's All-American team, and will thus participate in the All-American game March 28 at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Ky.

Anderson scored 27 points on Saturday night to lead Junction City to a 77-63 victory over Stephens in the championship game of the Class 2A South Region Tournament. The Dragons improved to 28-3 and will begin play in the 2A state tournament Tuesday night in Danville, Ark.

Anderson, who signed with OSU during the early signing period in November, is averaging 39 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and four assists this season.

"As far as an individual honor, this is very big for James," Junction City head coach Joe Paul Hammett told the El-Dorado News Times. "I believe it's one of the highest honors you can get. I know it doesn't happen very often for us down this way. I believe he may be one of the first the state of Arkansas has had in quite some time. So for James this is definitely a very big achievement."

Anderson becomes the third Oklahoma State signee in the past three years to earn McDonald's All-American recognition. Current point guard Byron Eaton and Gerald Green, both members of the 2005 recruiting class, both participated in the McDonald's All-American game two years ago. Green never made it to OSU as he elected to bypass college and enter the NBA, where he now plays for the Boston Celtics.

That number may increase from three to four in the next few months because point guard Jai Lucas of Houston (Bellaire), Texas also was named Saturday night to the McDonald's All-American list. The 5-10 Lucas, the younger brother of former Cowboy John Lucas, is expected to sign in April with one of his final four choices – Oklahoma State, Kentucky, Maryland or Oklahoma.

Both Anderson and Lucas were selected to play for the West team in the game.
