Recruiting: Thompson To Watch Spring Game

One of the real standouts at the Scout combine on Sunday at the Dallas Cowboy facility in Valley Ranch, Texas, was tight end/defensive end Taylor Thompson of Prosper, Texas. Thompson was the All-Combine co-tight end selection along with James Hanna.

Thompson is 6-6, 229 pounds and ran an impressive 4.75. He also had a 30.3-inch vertical and an 8-foot, 11-inch standing broad jump. That should come as no surprise because Thompson also competes in basketball and track. He high jumps, triple jumps, and runs the 100 and 200 meters. He also reports a 305-pound bench press max and a 405-pound max in the squat.

Thompson plays both ways and caught 22 passes last season for 375 yards and a touchdown. Recruiting is just now hitting a high gear for him.

"I went to junior days at TCU and Texas A&M," said Thompson. "Oklahoma State is recruiting me really hard and Kansas and Utah. I really like TCU because of the coaches. Oklahoma State is wanting me to come up there as soon as a I can to see the school and the campus. I'm planning on going up there for the junior day on their spring game on the 14th."

Thompson said he really hasn't formed any strong opinions on any of the schools, but when we asked he did give a game plan for himself in handling recruiting and making a decision.

"I'm not going to sit back like some guys and wait and take all my visits," said Thompson, who also reports that he has his academics in order. "I'm not going to rush it either and commit when I first get the offer. I do want to go see the school and check it out, but if I find the right fit then I would make an early commitment."

Oklahoma State could be looking for up to two tight ends in the 2008 recruiting class.
