Recruiting: Owens In No Hurry

Wide receiver Jameel Owens of Muskogee, Okla., said he is getting plenty of phone traffic as you might expect considering he is widely thought of as a top-100 national prospect. Owens said he is still busy with baseball season, but is also thinking recruiting.

"I'm not anywhere close to deciding on a school," Owens said when asked if he would be in favor of the NCAA having an early signing period for football. "That is something I will think more about this summer. I'm not saying I would make an early commitment, but it wouldn't be a bad option to have. I just know right now that I am nowhere close to a decision."

Owens is checking things out especially locally. "I went to the Red-White Game (at Oklahoma) last weekend, and I am going to the Orange-White Game (at Oklahoma State) this Saturday," he said.

Owens is 6-4, 200 pounds and runs a 4.4. He has been a starter for the past two seasons for the Roughers and is such a good athlete that he even filled in some at quarterback last season because of an injury. Make no mistake though, Owens is a brilliant prospect at wide receiver.
