Recruiting: James Says It's Getting Crazy

Speedster running back LaMichael James of Texarkana (Liberty-Eylau), Texas said as the calendar is turning toward May his recruitment has taken it up a notch.'s Robert Allen visited with James on Thursday to get all the details.

"It's getting crazy around here the last few days," said James, who is participating in both track and spring football right now. "I've talked to a lot of coaches at school the last few days -- Texas A&M, SMU, Mississippi State, Minnesota, and I know I'm forgetting some. They've been hanging out at the school and they are out there watching football in the afternoon."

On the football field James' 4.28 speed in the 40-yard dash translates to 1,587 yards and 16 touchdowns rushing along with 426 yards and three touchdowns receiving last season. As a sophomore, splititng time, he rushed for 643 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has numerous offers, but the 5-10, 190-pounder has been undecided on whether he would commit early or not.

"I have a favorite, but I'm not 100 percent sure," said James on his decision-making progress. So who is the favorite?

"Oklahoma State," replied James. After a pause, he said, "Arkansas is next and they are pretty close, and then there are a bunch of others that are pretty close to them."

James was noncommittal on a time table, but added that he is going to camp at Oklahoma State and Northwestern (La.) State this summer. "Those are the only two I know for sure right now," he said.

James also added that his phone has been ringing a lot more since the evaluation period also opened allowing coaches to make one call during the period to a prospect.
