Recruiting: Horton Stands Out At OSU Camp

The Oklahoma State coaching staff started its annual caravan of satellite camps Tuesday in Kilgore, Texas, where close to 80 high school players were anxious to experience working out with college coaches. One of the players on hand that has not received as much mention, but apparently was impressive, even to the other players attending, was tight end Justin Horton of Henderson, Texas.

"It was great," said Horton of the practice that went on despite off and on showers. "I really got a lot out of working with Coach (Doug) Meacham and it was cool to be working out with college coaches. I think they really tried to work us like we were college players and that is what I want to be."

The 6-4, 220-pound Horton is a blazer for his size with 4.5 speed, and he claims his high school coach has clocked him in a 4.41 for the 40-yard dash. He really excels at ball skills and running routes. All that from an athlete that runs track in the spring (100 meters) and also plays basketball for the Henderson High School Lions. All that from a player that just came out for his first year of high school football last season as a junior and earned first team all-district honors.

"Oklahoma State is definitely one of the schools that I am thinking about," said Horton. "I also like Nebraska and Tulsa , too, but I am going to be checking out Oklahoma State."

Horton also has offers from Houston and Louisiana Tech and is bound to see more recruiting action. Oklahoma State is recruiting him as a tight end with the idea that he is going to get bigger with his large frame. Some other schools, like Houston, see him as a big wide receiver.

"I'm probably going to stay closer to home," said Horton on recruiting and his eventual decision. "I'm kind of a mama's boy. I like being around my family and friends. I like my mama's cooking. I really see myself staying somewhere close where I can get home easily."

Tuesday was a bonus because he had a chance for a college-type practice experience right down the road from home.
