Recruiting: Cowboys Get Major Commit At LB

In the soon to be released Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine recent Cowboy commitment Victor Jones is listed as a second-team Super Team linebacker. Well, now the speedy backer from Richland High School is joined on the OSU commitment list by the guy listed next to him in Texas Football magazine. Dallas Skyline standout Alfred DuPree IV has also committed to Oklahoma State.

"I committed to Oklahoma State tonight," DuPree said Tuesday night. "I'm going up there later this week, either Friday or Saturday. I looked at a variety of things (in making the decision), location; players, I looked up all the players that are sophomores, freshmen, and in this recruiting class; and Coach Lupe (Curtis Luper) who recruited me is really down to earth and cool. I also talked to Richetti (incoming freshman defensive end Richetti Jones of Dallas Lincoln). We are good friends and he told me what it was going to be like."

Richetti Jones, who is currently taping an ESPN series featuring incoming freshmen in New Jersey, is the signee that keeps on giving. Jones helped in recruiting a number of his classmates, and, obviously, is already starting to work on recruiting younger players coming behind him in the program.

Back to DuPree. He is a linebacker at 6-2, 213 pounds with a 4.65 in the 40-yard dash that was really a wanted man in recruiting. He is relentless in running down plays and also coming off the edge on pass rush. For those reasons and more he had scholarship offers from LSU, Arkansas, Alabama, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Mississippi, Florida, Kansas, Kansas State, Colorado, Colorado State, Nebraska, Baylor and North Texas. He said OSU was recruiting him to play outside linebacker and that is fine with him.

He said he did not know his current bench press, but he has a squat max of 500 pounds and said his vertical is 39 or 40 inches.

"This summer I have a job and I am going to spend my free time lifting with the team and making myself better," added DuPree. Told he was talking to a former W.T. White player, a district rival to Skyline, he added, "We're going to try to beat those guys by 50 points."

DuPree said he enjoyed recruiting but wanted to get it over with. He had a lot of schools pursuing and the process would wear on him at times. He has a 2.4 grade-point average and just recently re-took the SAT, so he is waiting for word on how he did. He hopes to know soon, maybe before he makes the trip to the OSU campus later in the week.

DuPree is the 12 commitment for Oklahoma State and the 10th in the past two and a half weeks of what has been a major run of success for the Oklahoma State coaching staff in recruiting Texas.
