Recruiting: Big JW Has Five Offers

Offensive line prospect John Williams of Tulsa (Washington), Okla., is a friendly kind of guy, unless you are an opposing defensive linemen because then the meeting is bound to be pretty physical. When we watched Williams work in non-contact drills at a recent Oklahoma State camp we were impressed with his base and his aggressiveness.

The 6-3, 310-pound Williams also moved well for his size. As reported on Scout in another recent update, Williams has a fondness for Kansas. "Kansas is my favorite," he said. "Coach (Bill) Young and Coach (Mark) Mangino are really cool."

Kansas is one of five schools that have offered a scholarship to Williams thus far. That list includes KU, Tulsa, Arkansas, Colorado State and Northwestern. Williams said he has about a 2.8 overall grade-point average, and already has notched a 22 on the ACT, which got Northwestern's attention.

As for his appearance at the Oklahoma State camp? "I thought I did pretty good," said Williams. "They didn't talk to me too much after it was over, so I was afraid they didn't think I did that good. I felt I did fairly well."

Williams also made it to the OU football camp this summer and he is working every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at Washington as his team has conditioning and strength practice.

"We're working pretty hard and we get to rest on Tuesdays and Thursdays," said Williams. "We are up there from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m."

He added that his summer is going good and that growing up he really didn't have a favorite school. "I didn't watch much football until recently," explained Williams. "My dad always played basketball and he played basketball in college but didn't go anywhere after that. I didn't grow up watching a lot of sports." His dad played at Texas A&M.

As for away from football, Williams says he likes hanging out with friends and he goes to movies. So what is his all-time favorite flick? "Fight Club," Williams answered. "I don't know what it is really about that movie, but it is one I really like."

It fits with the way he plays.
